Kinsella and his board mark 126 years of the GAA foundation

Paul Kinsella Chairman of the Kilkenny County GAA Board welcomed all delegates to O’Loughlin/Gaels GAA club earlier in the week to mark the 126th year of the foundation. Each year the annual convention takes a look back over the past successes and future plans.

The Senior Final between O’Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny and Oulart the Ballagh of Wexford will now be played in January 2011. In the intermediates Dicksboro will take on Kilburn Gaels in Ruislip, London, on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 1.30pm.

Hurling finals re-fixed for this Sunday

The AIB Leinster club hurling and football finals will take place at the same time at different venues this Sunday. Following the postponement of last Sunday’s hurling decider between Oulart-the-Ballagh and O'Loughlin Gaels, the Leinster Council has rescheduled the game for Dr Cullen Park at 2pm this Sunday - the same time as the football final between Kilmacud Crokes and Rhode takes place in O'Moore Park.

John Lockes win Junior title in nailbiting final replay

John Lockes of Callan ensured their return to the Intermediate grade next year by winning the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Kilkenny Junior hurling title when they defeated Barrow Rangers by 1-14 to 0-14 in Nowlan Park on Monday last. Looking stronger than they had the previous week the Callanmen came into the replay with great confidence and balance. They enjoyed the advantage of an early goal scored by corner forward Shane Bergin but by half time Barrow Rangers had fought back to level terms 0-7 to 1-4.

A crowd of 11,000 turned up at a bright but very cold Nowlan Park last Sunday to witness O'Loughlin Gaels claiming their third Kilkenny senior county title. The bookies had made Carrickshock favourites, it was a tag that surprised many locals, one can only assume that the odds compiler wasn't aware of the city men's experience and fighting spirit. OK the ‘Shocks had five intercounty players in their ranks but it was widely accepted in Kilkenny that it was O'Loughlin Gaels that had the more balanced outfit.

All 12 teams set out at the start of the championship campaign hoping to reach this very special day in the Kilkenny hurling calendar. Round by round teams have fallen by the wayside.
